First gear was very low on the early bikes & you had to shift into second almost immediately after take off & the pulley allows a better use of first gear for slow speed maneuvering.


If you go fast the aluminum will get hot and glob up your burr bit.



It not only makes 6th gear more useable on thes bikes it makes every gear more usable.



These overdrive pulleys will drop your Rev's by 300 RPMs in every gear making for a more usable gear ratio.



All the instructions I've seen said to heat the locktite to allow the nut to come off.

Because the pulley is wider the speed sensor boss has to be clearanced by about 1/8".

It would nice if it was time to reassemble everything but there is still work to do. JavaScript is disabled. I drilled the threads out of a 1/4" nut and used it to space the speed sensor back. I was able to use a wrench and

What little installation information I could find online all showed the removal of the exhaust and related items. I used an inspection mirror to make sure the pulley and belt had clearance with the pulley cover installed. I know its been covered a million times, but the million companies that used to make the pulleys dont any more. What would be even better was a 6-speed but I have to settle for the pulley. Lower gears are like a longer lever: They provide more mechanical advantage. It’s similar to when you use a long breaker bar instead of a short ratchet handle to remove tight lug nuts. I didn't have to completely remove the entire exhaust system...just the mufflers. When I got ready to install everything I touched the exhaust and it literally fell off the bike.

First thing I MUST say is - these bikes should have come with them installed from the factory!!!

Don't ask me how I know this. Tip: When using a burr on aluminum go very slow and allow the burr to eat the aluminum away.
