I still say it's watchable so I gave it two good stars.Phaedra is a decent film. What will the Fates bring this family? Melina Mercouri and Anthony Perkins give good performances. What's good is Mercouri and her costumes. At least three times we see him rising into the sky like a God, twice on his own helicopter and once, most strikingly, when he and Alexis stand on a platform raised by a crane that overlooks the hub of his shipping empire. After a ranch in Texas is befallen to a mysterious, demonic presence, it is up to an eccentric, wandering priest to find answers and dispel the darkness.
That final look with the headscarf turban and dark glasses is fierce and should be on POSE. It's her movie and she graces the screen and has this way of drawing you in!Melina Mercouri makes this movie so good! However, back in Greece, she changes her mind and proceeds to pursue her now reluctant step-son with tragic consequences. It’s a story replete with risks, not least of which is a descent into over-emotive melodrama, and to be fair Dassin is occasionally guilty of allowing the principal members of his cast to overact (particularly Perkins in his final scenes). Phaedra's passion for the boy cannot be hidden. His day is about to get even worse. This movie had Melina Mercouri, Anthony Perkins, Raf Vallone in the lead roles of the film. Some of the shots and montage were memorably unique: the melding of water and fire during the love scene, the final sequence, etc.Contrary to popular opinion, I really liked this movie. Apart from these moments, as a whole, it fails to give a deeper interpretation of the myth.An oddity of a film, unknown and underappreciated. Another scene which is almost comical. It's interesting to see Dassin make a film with such style and that alone was enough to hold my interest, but the characters and situations were not so believable or engaging.Melina Mercouri makes this movie so good! Time Out says. In Deutschland kam der Film erstmals am 7. A little while ago I watched a little known British film called An Honourable Murder (1960) in which the betrayal of Caesar was played out in the boardroom of a shipping company, and today I watched the Greek legend of Hippolytus portrayed in much the same way in Jules Dassin’s ambitious, if flawed, Phaedra. Some of the shots and montage were memorably unique: the melding of water and fire during the love scene, the final sequence, etc.An oddity of a film, unknown and underappreciated. Sidney Poitier’s 7 Most Memorable Performances I still say it's watchable so I gave it two good stars.Mediocre film that spends its best time on Mercouri's beauty and presence. Her acting is crude and her bad accent doesn't help (this can be forgiven, given that she plays a Greek), but she also has some truly sublime moments, especially when she has to express emotion silently. This post has been submitted for our review. Some of the scenes are deftly directed, but the script strays too much, from the classic tragedy, into melodrama. Some of the scenes are deftly directed, but the script strays too much, from the classic tragedy, into melodrama.Mediocre film that spends its best time on Mercouri's beauty and presence. And then came PHAEDRA. Apart from these moments, as a whole, it fails to give a deeper interpretation of the myth. Another scene which is almost comical. Phaedra duly does so, and she is immediately attracted to her step-son. The story, as you would expect with Greek tragedy, is extremely overwrought but that doesn't translate so well to a modern setting. Also good is the scenery.
