From our Historical Notebook we present a photograph of the front of the fire station, circa 1908. In 1835, Mrs. Peabody named the area 'Albion' because some of the early settlers, including Jesse Crowell, hailed from Albion Township, New York.

The station was located at our current location at 29 mile road and C Drive North. Prior to this, the townships housed their fire trucks at the Albion city fire station and they provided 1 full time fire fighter per shift. The structure was finally demolished on July 9, 1958.

The sleeping quarters for the firemen were located on the second floor. Above the door is the sign "Engine House No. The Albion Department of Public Safety provides both police and fire services to the citizens of Albion. An extensive remodeling of the Fire Station occurred in 1900 when the first floor was raised about two feet to match the level of the sidewalk, as well as raising the roof about three feet.

The Albion Fire Department is an entity of the Town of Albion and consists of about 35 volunteer firefighters. When Albion's present City Hall opened in May, 1936, the Fire Department moved to its new headquarters, and the old Fire Station became a storage facility for the City for many years thereafter. Behind Connors is an outdoor advertising thermometer hanging on the door advertising Afton A. Dibbles clothing store. In 1896 a small separate building was erected adjacent to the west to house the police, jail, and city offices, which moved there.

Albion Township Fire Department 28051 F Dr S Albion, MI 49224 (517) 629-2331 The methods used to accomplish this are prevention, control, training, and public education. The police station is located at City Hall, 112 W. Cass St. and the fire station is located at 207 N. Clinton St. When the Gale moved to N. Albion St. in 1888, the City of Albion acquired the structure as part of a bonding deal with that concern, and refitted the building into a fire station, a police station, and City Council rooms.
The structure was finally demolished on July 9, 1958.
