I'm not a huge fan of the games (I've only ever played IV) but as someone who is into history, I was pretty stoked for this movie. It's almost been 2 years and the movie is still awesome, I give it an 8/10.

The overall story was disappointing and the fact that there will be a sequel made it even more disappointing. As a young boy Callum Lynch witnessed his father murder his mother. Shortly, for lovers of mindless kung-fu action, this movie is watchable but gives viewer very little satisfaction. I'm going to come out and say it, the critics are right, but there is a big but here. Though it’s explained in the narrative, Doctor Sophia Rikkin (Cotillard) frequently pulls Callum from the Animus at the height of the action.

Other Abstergo prisoners and would-be Assassins aren’t given the necessary development, and deliver equally banal dialogue. 4:56 This is overlayed on ghostly historical images in a few shots, and makes for some great visuals. All of the issues so far pertain to the modern-day portion of Assassin’s Creed. Cut to about 30 years later and Callum is on death row.
In fact, a few key moments that lead into the movie’s finale are given zero explanation.

As far as movie adaptations of video games, this is a far better rendition than many other attempts.

It really could have benefited from a longer run time, to give more character development to the ancestors, and explain some of the characters motivations better. One of the movies biggest sins is to cut away from the Leap of Faith, which results in a loss of impact for the series’ most iconic maneuver.Where the Assassin’s Creed games lean heavily into the past, the movie gives too much attention to the present. I'm not looking for realistic when I go see a movie; I'm looking for an escape from the daily grind.

Besides a few yearly sports titles, I don't find myself enamored with any single video game series. The device taps into the genetic memory of the user’s DNA, allowing them to live out the memories of their ancestors (in this case, Callum’s 15th century assassin forefather, Aguilar). The film’s greatest weapon by far is its sterling cast.If this all seems a bit confusing to those who haven’t spent hours upon hours playing the game series, never fear. But his execution is faked, and he finds himself a prisoner of Abstergo, a strange company bent on digging into his ancestral past, which will guide them to the location of the Apple of Eden. Michael Kenneth Williams Assassin’s Creed is essentially two films that bleed into each other.

The action and martial arts were great. PG-13 (for intense sequences of violence and action, thematic elements and brief strong language)
