I can respect that Gondry may have been more interesting in making a record of his aunt's past than dig up old skeletons, but outside of the travelogue aspect there isn't much to dig into.…The Thorn in the Heart is worth a look for anyone interested in Gondry's personal life and the people that have shaped his career. So much so that this documentary, which was originally intended to focus solely on his aunt's former job as a teacher, eventually opens up his angle and deals with a multitude of other subjects, such as the difficult relationship she has with her depressive son.
