The book is a quick, entertaining read and I enjoyed it quite a lot. For a girl who has never spent a night away from her parents, she's suddenly hustled into the car by her sad-looking father, subjected to listening to her sobbing mother, and unceremoniously dropped off in the middle of the night in a town she's never heard of, at the home of a woman claiming to be her Aunt Myrlie. As Bethany approaches her thirteenth birthday, her parents act more oddly than usual. They watch old videos, and Bethany is struck by how much she looks like Elizabeth. I love the Young Adult genre and this may have been written just a tad younger than what I usually enjoy but I found it to be compelling and intriguing. And it taught them some new vocabulary. The first edition of the novel was published in October 1st 2005, and was written by Margaret Peterson Haddix. And who the heck is Elizabeth, the name she overheard her father and Myrlie discussing? The story is well told and taught with mystery/suspense. But I am so glad it was "Double Identity".

I gave this book 5 stars because it is a complete page turner that left me hanging at the end of each chapter. I had a great time reading Double Identity, I didn't want to stop. I learned words that I did not know before. But around the girls' 13th birthdays, the two families made a road trip in which an accident took the lives of Elizabeth and Myrlie's husband. She calls Bethany "Elizabeth" and says Dad believes if they save enough of her cells, they can clone her. Now Bethany wonders if her mother's ravings could contain any truth.

The concept was interesting and the sad side of it kept my interest. Bethany continues to learn who she is, apart from Elizabeth, and discover she is valued as an individual by her family.
