The TV film stars Neil Maskell, Charles Dance, Richard Glover, Joe Cole and Sam Riley. I had high hopes for this film as I loved 'Kill List' and 'Sightseers' but unfortunately it just came across as an artier version of Eastenders filmed on wobblycam. Was this review helpful? The characters' actions are often implausible, many of the characters themselves are superfluous (or there only to widen the demographic net) and, although if you persevere to the end it's not entirely negative, it is certainly drab and depressing. I'm a big Wheatley fan, even though I think his films can be hit and miss. What starts off as an easy task soon unravels, sending the killer into the heart of darkness. Fractious family gatherings, especially those marking a holiday or life event, are a staple of Anglophone popular culture. Great acting does not a compelling story make. The backdrop for this black comedy is Penn Castle and the Estate grounds, as well as surrounding locations on Portland, bringing the spotlight to the most southerly point of the Jurassic Coast. The black comedy tells the story of a man, who plans to prove his worth to his extended family by throwing them a lavish New Year party at a stately home in the country.
